Steel-to-timber connection with bolts or dowels
Feasibility prototype — not for design use. The calculation has not been validated for design decisions.
A timber member connected to one steel plate (single shear), a slotted-in plate or two outer plates (double shear) with bolts or dowels in rows parallel to the grain. The check covers the Johansen failure modes, the effective number of fasteners, splitting, the steel side and the minimum spacings and distances. Everything runs in this browser.
Checked
- Johansen failure modes per shear plane (EN 1995-1-1 8.2.3), rope effect for bolts, effective number nef
- Splitting (8.1.4), spacings and distances (Tables 8.4 and 8.5)
- Steel side: bolt shear and bearing (EN 1993-1-8 Table 3.4)
Not checked
- Block shear and plug shear (EN 1995-1-1 Annex A), net sections of timber and plate, block tearing of the plate
- Moments from eccentricity in the fastener group; hardwood (embedment strength for softwood only); fasteners over 30 mm
