Timber beam bearing
Feasibility prototype — not for design use. The calculation has not been validated for design decisions.
The end of a timber beam or joist on a masonry wall (for instance in a pocket), on concrete or on a steel plate or flange. The check covers compression perpendicular to the grain with the effective contact length and the concentrated load on the masonry or concrete below. Everything runs in this browser.
Checked
- Compression perpendicular to the grain with the effective contact length and kc,90 (EN 1995-1-1 6.1.5)
- Concentrated load on masonry (EN 1996-1-1 6.1.3, eccentricity e ≤ t/4 as a warning) or on concrete (EN 1992-1-1 6.7, α = 1)
Not checked
- Shear of the beam at the support, notches, fixings against uplift or sliding
- The wall at mid-height, the steel plate or flange itself
